European River Cruise from Vienna to Bucharest down the Danube River

Vienna, Austria is perhaps the epicenter of Café and Cake.  Almost every corner has a café shoppe and cake is the compliment of choice to go with that Café.  Donna and I started our adventure going to one of the oldest and most famous café shoppes in Vienna called Sluka. Café and Cake in Every Country was born when half between the second sip of Café and the Raspberry dark chocolate torte that I wanted to experience this European cultural event in every stop of our 50th Anniversary tour.

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1 Episode 4: Today we are in Pecs, (pronounced Peesh), Hungary. Poppy Seed and Blueberry pastry was on the menu! Pecs is a beautiful little city in central Hungary. It has a population of about 150,000.

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1 - Episode 5 finds us in Osijek, Croatia. This photo shows the most famous Café shop in the city. In the 1990's most of this city was destroyed by war. It is rebuilt showing both the old and the new. So quaint, so cute, so yummy!

The Gabby Café hosted Season 1 Episode 6 of Café and Cake in Every Country. We were greeted by a very beautiful smiling young lady who was from Russia, going to school in Novi Sad, Belgrade. When she took this photo of us, she said we were "very cute." - She ain't wrong!

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1 - Episode 7. Today we celebrate our anniversary in the capital city of Belgrade, Serbia. At one time this city was the capital of the former Yugoslavia. But today it was good Café and chocolate torte! And doesn't my sweet wife look like "sunshine in a package!"

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1 Episode 8. Today's scenic backdrop was in Donji Milanovac, Serbia. I didn't know what to expect to see in Serbia, and to be honest I had low expectations. However, I was so amazed at what we experienced. Donji Milanovac was our last stop in Serbia. It is a small town that at its city center was beautiful fountain. It also had an amazing Orthodox church with an acapella choir performance.

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1 Episode 9, finds us in Vidin, Bulgaria today. We were told by a very informative local that The Vision Café Shop had the best cake in town. We ordered the Raspberry and White Chocolate cake and Café.

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1: Episode 11 took a turn in cuisine today. We visited a Wine Vineyard and experienced an amazing Wine Tasting and lunch in Murfatlar, Romania!

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 1: Episode 12 found us at the waterfront beach of the Black Sea in Constanta, Romania. The sunrise was stunning! But wait! There's more!!! We finished the day in Bucharest with a delight from a local Gelato shoppe.

Aaaand we’re home! Thanks for joining us on our 12 episodes of Season 1 - Café and Cake in Every Country. Donna and I embarked on a Viking River Cruise of the Eastern European Capitals down the Danube River from Vienna to Bucharest.
 
We did so to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. We chose to celebrate by having a serving of local Café and cake date in every country, and sometimes more than one city of a country. We started in Vienna at one of their oldest and best-known Café shops in this historic city. I called this Season 1 because we're already planning Season 2 on a different route.

Donna and I, along with Mary Rose, made our way across the pond to the Baltic Sea coast city of Klaipėda, Lithuania. Our first agenda item was to check into an Airbnb, then have dinner with the McDougle family. What a sweet time of refreshment and reacquaintance!

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season 2, Episode 2 found us on the LCC International University campus where we hosted a pizza party for some students. We were then able to be a part of an intercultural experience of storytelling through a photograph of our choice. Everybody had to bring a photo that resonated their passions. Storytelling? Photography? Yes please! And of course, Café and cake in the campus Café shop with my sweetheart.

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season Two Episode Three.
On our last day in Klaipėda, Lithuania, Donna and I had our last Café and cake date at a pastry bakery. We're here because we had been invited to participate in a Conflict Transformation class project at LCC International University. In this class students from different countries and cultures brought a photograph that represented their passion and then had to tell a story about that photo, and why it meant so much to them! Photography and Storytelling? I was in my element!

Café and Cake in Every Country: Season Two - Episode Four.
It's been said you can't count being in a country if you never left the airport. I say you can if it's where the final episode of Season Two of Café and Cake in Every Country happened! The Copenhagen Airport in Denmark had an amazing selection of high-end pastry and Café shoppes. So, I took my forever date (51 years together, 50 of those married) for a smoked salmon sandwich, Café, Latte, and a chocolate cinnamon roll our final episode of this adventurous ride! Aaaand we're home!
